The Arab Women in Maritime Association Organizes a Webinar to Combat Cyber Violence Against Women with Remarkable Participation from Across Arab States
As part of its ongoing efforts to empower and protect women in the digital age, the Egyptian National Chapter of the Arab Women in Maritime Association (AWIMA) organized a webinar entitled:
“Cyber Violence Against Women and Ways to Combat It.”
The webinar was held under the patronage and supervision of Ms. Noorah Al-Ghethami, President of AWIMA, and Ms. Shireene Galal, Director of the General Secretariat. It was prepared and moderated by Ms. Marwa Hafez, Head of the Egyptian National Chapter.
Ms. Marwa Hafez opened the session by highlighting the serious risks posed by cyber violence, which has become a growing threat to the psychological and social stability of women. She expressed her appreciation to the Association’s leadership for their continuous support of issues concerning Arab and Egyptian women across various sectors, particularly the maritime sector.
The webinar featured Dr. Dalia Younis, Vice Dean of the College of International Transport and Logistics (Cairo branch) and a member of the Cybersecurity Committee at the National Council for Women, as the keynote speaker.
Dr. Younis addressed several key topics, including:
Forms of cyber violence, including blackmail, cyberbullying, and online harassment targeting women.
Protection mechanisms, outlining both technical and legal measures required to secure personal accounts and respond effectively to threats.
Egypt’s national efforts to combat cyber violence, highlighting relevant legislation and initiatives led by the National Council for Women and cybersecurity authorities.
For their part, Ms. Noorah Al-Ghethami and Ms. Shireene Galal commended the active engagement of participants, emphasizing that digital safety remains a top priority for AWIMA. They reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to ensuring a safe working and living environment for women in the maritime sector and related industries, in alignment with international and national human rights frameworks.
The webinar concluded with several key recommendations, including:

  1. Raising legal awareness of the Cybercrime Law.
  2. Strengthening digital literacy skills among women to prevent cyber threats.
  3. Activating direct communication channels with security authorities and the National Council for Women for immediate reporting of violations.
  4. Proposing draft regulatory frameworks to the Council of Arab Transport Ministers aimed at protecting women working onboard ships.
