Third AWIMA Meeting Convenes and Elects Executive Council under Saudi Arabia Presidency

The city of Alexandria hosted the AWIMA Workshop from 27 to 31 July 2025, held alongside the third annual meeting of the Arab Women in Maritime Association (AWIMA), marking a significant milestone in the Association’s institutional development.
The workshop was inaugurated by H.E. Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, in the presence of Ms. Louise Proctor, Technical Cooperation Officer at the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Major General Tarek Abdallah, Head of the Maritime Transport and Logistics Sector, Major General Hussein El-Guiziri, Chairman of the Egyptian Maritime Safety Authority, Prof. El-Senoussi Belbaa, Vice President for Maritime Affairs, Captain Emad Khafagy, Dean of the IMO Complex at the Academy, and Ms. Shireene Galal, Director of the General Secretariat of AWIMA.
The Arab Academy hosted the General Secretariat of AWIMA, while the Egyptian Maritime Safety Authority organized and hosted the event with the support of the IMO, reinforcing regional and international cooperation in the maritime sector.
The workshop aimed to promote a gender-inclusive culture within the maritime industry, highlight the role of Arab women in this vital sector, and strengthen the Association’s institutional framework.
This event also marked the third meeting of AWIMA, during which the third Executive Council was nominated and formed, reflecting the continued growth of the Association. The presidency of the Executive Council was assigned to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, further supporting regional collaboration and women’s empowerment in the maritime sector.
