Sudan Branch celebration of the International Day for Women in Maritime

It gives great pleasure and honor to the National Women in Maritime Transport Association – Sudan Branch to extend its sincere congratulations to all women working in ports and across the maritime sector on the occasion of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) celebration of the International Day for Women in Maritime, observed annually on 18 May. This year’s theme is: “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.”
The National Association – Sudan Branch celebrated this occasion at the Container Terminal through a major event that reflected remarkable engagement from all stakeholders in the maritime transport sector, in recognition of the vital role, contribution, and leadership of women in this field.
The celebration was honored by the Acting Director General, directors of various departments at the port, the Director of Maritime Control, and representatives from the port community, including the Red Sea Customs Police, Standards and Quality Authority, Agricultural and Health Quarantine authorities, Port Police, the Red Sea University (Faculty of Maritime Transport Economics, Faculty of Marine Sciences, and the Women’s Studies Center), Port Sudan National University, Sudan Shipping Lines, the Director of the Red Sea Environmental Center, the Fisheries Research Station, the Central Bank of Sudan, representatives of shipping agencies, the Ministry of Trade, the Customs Brokers Union, in addition to a large attendance of women working at the port, with participation reaching nearly 300 attendees.
The celebration featured:
An exhibition with participation from the Safety and Quality Departments and the Red Sea Environmental Center.
Lectures addressing the role of women in sustainability, maritime transport (research studies), and environmental resource protection.
Women’s experiences in customs clearance, as well as awareness initiatives promoting the use of white meat, especially fish, among rural women.
The production of a special documentary film for the celebration, highlighting:
A day in the life of a woman working at the Container Terminal.
