Strong Female Participation at the 2nd Algiers Maritime Forum with AWIMA Algeria

The 2nd edition of the Algiers Maritime Forum was held on 16 April 2025 at the Mercure Hotel in Algiers, under the theme:
“Safety, Compliance and Risk Management in the Modern Maritime Industry,” organized by Global Trade Support.
The forum brought together maritime experts, decision-makers, and key industry stakeholders for a full day of discussions addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the rapidly evolving maritime sector.
The event highlighted Algeria’s strategic role as a regional maritime hub, while exploring development opportunities at both national and international levels. Key topics included classification societies, marine insurance, environmental standards, and major international regulations such as SOLAS, ISM, and MARPOL.
The forum was marked by a strong and balanced participation of female experts, reflecting the growing role of women in the maritime sector and emphasizing the importance of diversity and inclusiveness in addressing industry challenges.
In this context, the role of the Algerian National Chapter of the Arab Women in Maritime Association (AWIMA Algeria) stands out in supporting and promoting women’s participation, as this growing presence reflects significant progress in women’s empowerment within the sector.
Among the notable speakers were Ms. Djamila Hemici, Director of Major Risks at an Algerian insurance company, who presented on maritime insurance and risk management, and Ms. Chahinez Yakouben, representative of the Algerian Union of Insurance and Reinsurance, who delivered a presentation on technical expertise and advisory services.
The forum reaffirmed the importance of the maritime sector in Algeria’s economic development and explored future strategies to enhance competitiveness, safety, and sustainability in the industry.
