Second Regional Conference in Support of Arab Women in the Maritime Sector - Media Statement

The Second Regional Conference for the Support of Arab Women in the Maritime Sector - Empowerment of Women in the Maritime Sector and the mapping of the course for leaders in the maritime sector in accordance with the objectives of the sustainable development of the United Nations, especially the fifth target from 15 to 18 April 2019 at the headquarters of the Permanent Secretariat of the League of Arab Women in the Maritime Sector - Hosting the IMO Complex at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport - Abu Kir - Alexandria, Egypt.

 The International Maritime Organization (IMO), in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Maritime Transport Sector and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, is supporting Arab women in the field of maritime transport through the Arab Women's Association in the Maritime Sector (AWIMA).

 In the presence of the delegation of the State of Algeria - Egypt - Djibouti - Jordan - Tunisia - Sudan - Saudi Arabia - UAE) and observers from the WIMAFRICA Association, the WOMESA Association in Africa, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and the League of Arab Women in the Maritime Sector.

And speakers from India and the United States of America and representatives of the International Maritime Organization.

 The Arab Women's Association in the Maritime Sector aims to promote national and regional recognition of the role of Arab women as a resource for the maritime industry and to strengthen the networks of cooperation among Arab women in the ports and seas sectors at the local, regional and international levels, thus building national and regional capacities through equal quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for women Arabic.

Increase employment opportunities for Arab women at the senior management levels of the relevant maritime transport sectors, develop partnerships and collaborate with national maritime administrations, regional entities, United Nations agencies and the private sector.

Promote and promote gender equality for Arab women in the maritime sector and strengthen mechanisms for the implementation of the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development within the framework of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda

Its mission is to encourage and empower Arab women by improving their professional skills and highlighting their active role in the maritime sector and their vision revolves around a dynamic Arab woman leading a strong maritime sector.

It is also working on the 17th objective of sustainable development, namely, the partnership to sign a memorandum of understanding for cooperation with the Association of Women in the Maritime Sector in Eastern and Southern Africa (WOMESA), one of the sessions of this conference.

A letter of intent was signed between WIMAFRICA in Nigeria last March.

The Executive Council of the Association will be elected in the presence of representatives of the International Maritime Organization and in the presence of the General Secretariat of the Association and in the presence of the host entity of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport. The new members will be announced within few days.
