Participation of the Secretary-General of AWIMA in the Visit of the IMO Secretary-General to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and the Opening of the IMO Regional Office in Egypt

Ms. Shireene Galal, Secretary-General of the Arab Women in Maritime Association (AWIMA), participated in the official visit of Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held alongside the opening of the Maritime Labour Organization Regional Representative Office in Egypt on 22 January 2025.
This participation reflects efforts to strengthen international cooperation and enhance regional partnerships in the maritime labour sector, contributing to improved working conditions and capacity building in line with global standards.
The event brought together senior maritime leaders, officials, and experts, marking an important step toward supporting the implementation of the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006) and promoting decent work for seafarers.
This engagement highlights AWIMA’s commitment to participating in key international platforms and supporting the development of the maritime labour sector, while reinforcing the role of women in achieving sustainability and compliance with international standards.
