Participation of Members of the Arab Women in Maritime Association in the International Women’s Day Celebration in Rabat, with the Support of the International Maritime Organization

At the kind invitation of the Ministry of Equipment and Water of the Kingdom of Morocco and the UK Department for Transport, and with the support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the Arab Women in Maritime Association (AWIMA) participated in the International Women’s Day celebration conference, held on 13 February 2025 in Rabat, Morocco.
The event was attended by H.E. Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, along with a distinguished group of female leaders and Moroccan and Arab personalities, as well as Ms. Mariana, IMO representative responsible for women’s affairs.
AWIMA was represented by:

  • •    Dr. Diana Zuweid, Director of the English Language Center and Marlins Exams at the Jordan Academy for Maritime Studies and member of the Jordanian National Chapter. 
  • •    Ms. Marwa Hafez, Media Officer at the Maritime Transport Sector and member of the Egyptian National Chapter. 

The representatives delivered a presentation highlighting AWIMA’s role in empowering Arab women in the maritime sector, showcasing key activities and achievements across member states. The discussions also addressed challenges and opportunities facing women in the industry.
The event further provided an opportunity to expand collaboration networks with women working in the maritime sector. AWIMA representatives expressed their strong interest in strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
They also highlighted AWIMA’s activities in their respective countries, aimed at enhancing women’s roles in the maritime community and contributing to a more inclusive and sustainable maritime sector.
