Launching of Arab Women Association in Maritime sector (AWIMA) on 19th October 2017

AWIMA was launched by 22 women from 9 Arab countries such as (Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya , Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Tunisia)  and high level organization in education and training which is AASTMT that is affiliated to the Arab League.

The new association has joined a family that is affiliated to the regional women in Maritime associations under the patronage of the IMO, this sheds light  on the role  that women aspire to as  she is the main factor in Maritime sector and  her role is acknowledged.

AASTMT has made elections to choose members of the Council  , it has nominated a  permanent  director for the General Secretariat for theAWIMA and it has established a  Ruling Council for the association by elections under the patronage of  the IMO and AASTMT on 19\10\2017 .

Saudi Arabia Kingdom has the advantage and lead in enabling women to become the president of this association.

To mention a few but not limited, experts, captains, marine engineers, logistics men and maritime lawyers have agreed upon that the IMO and AASTMT care about creating a framework for this association , and the reason behind that is providing them with training and exchanging knowledge to make it easier to execute the goals of the sustainable development, particularly the fifth goal of the sustainable development that seeks to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Female cadets who study at AASTMT have joined the opening ceremony to prove the changes that occurred in maritime industry and to encourage other young women to join the maritime sector which provides various benefits in maritime career especially seafarers .
