Joint Celebration by AASTMT, Maritime Transport Sector, and Maritime Safety Authority for the First International Day for Women in Maritime

The Alamein campus of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) hosted a distinguished celebration marking the first International Day for Women in Maritime, organized jointly by the Arab Academy, the Maritime Transport Sector, and the Egyptian Maritime Safety Authority, in support of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) initiatives to empower women in the maritime sector.
The event marked the official designation of 18 May as the International Day for Women in Maritime, aimed at highlighting women’s achievements and promoting their participation across the maritime industry.
The celebration brought together senior academic and maritime leaders, as well as representatives of relevant entities and students, featuring awareness sessions and discussions focused on women’s empowerment, capacity building, and expanding career opportunities in the maritime field.
The event also highlighted the growing role of women in navigation, engineering, logistics, and maritime administration, emphasizing the importance of supporting their advancement into leadership and decision-making positions.
As part of the celebration, several distinguished women in the Egyptian maritime sector were honored in recognition of their outstanding contributions and achievements.
Participants emphasized that this event represents a significant step toward achieving gender equality in the maritime sector and fostering a more inclusive and sustainable working environment, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and IMO vision.
