Celebration of Saudi and Emirati Women in Maritime at the IMO Headquarters

A special event was held at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) headquarters in London to celebrate the achievements of Saudi and Emirati women in the maritime sector, highlighting ongoing efforts to empower women and strengthen their role in this vital industry.
During the event, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the IMO honored a distinguished group of Saudi women working in the maritime field, in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
Among the honorees was Captain Maryam, recognized as the first Saudi woman to command a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), marking a significant milestone in women’s participation in the maritime industry.
The event also highlighted the growing role of Emirati women in maritime, and their achievements in leadership and maritime administration, supported by strong national commitments to women’s empowerment.
This celebration reflects the global maritime community’s commitment to gender equality and increasing women’s participation across all levels of the maritime sector, contributing to sustainable development.
