AWIMA Participates in IMO Global Conference in London Marking the First International Day for Women in Maritime

IMO Women in Maritime Associations (WIMAs), organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at its headquarters in London from 18 to 19 May 2023, coinciding with the celebration of the first International Day for Women in Maritime.
This event marked a historic milestone, as the IMO officially designated 18 May as the International Day for Women in Maritime to highlight the role of women and promote their participation in this vital sector.
The conference brought together representatives of women’s maritime associations from around the world to discuss key topics, including breaking barriers for women, promoting inclusive work environments, strengthening female leadership, and enhancing international cooperation for sustainable maritime development.
During the event, Ms. Shireene Galal, Director of the General Secretariat of AWIMA, delivered a presentation highlighting the Association’s role in empowering Arab women in the maritime sector, along with its key initiatives and activities across the region.
She also contributed, in collaboration with AWIMA Jordan members, to discussions on the development of the Global Strategy for Women in Maritime Associations (WIMAs), reflecting AWIMA’s active role in shaping international efforts to advance women’s empowerment in the maritime industry.
This participation underscores AWIMA’s growing international presence as a leading regional platform contributing to the IMO’s vision for a more inclusive and sustainable maritime sector.
