Miss\ Shireene Galal Is an Egyptian woman who entered the maritime field in 1996; where she gained experience in several fields.

 

 Currently, she is the Head of the Administrative Monitoring Department at the IMO Compound at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) since 2016.

 

Within the framework of cooperation between the International Maritime Organization, the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding on Technical Cooperation was first signed between the Egyptian government (represented by the Ministry of Transport), AASTMT and the International Maritime Organization on 1st October 2001.

  1. In this regard, she performs the following tasks:
  • Performing undertakings and providing amenities and facilities to host the selected ITCP activities of the Organization under the technical cooperation programme. She has participated in the implementation of more than 49 local and international technical cooperation programs from 2001 to 2005 as a volunteer and since 2005 to date as an employee.
  • Monitoring African student’s scholarships "Go to Sea" campaign, as well as scholarships from AASTMT for African Students selected by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Such scholarships emphasize the Academy’s dynamic role in enhancing and developing seafarers, in the light of seafarers’ decreasing numbers worldwide.
  • Performing all administrative follow-up and public relations functions at the IMO compound.
  • Working as an Education Coordinator from 2005 to December 2016 and as a focal point for IMO / MOU at the IMO Compound at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
  • Coordinating and implements activities related to the technical cooperation program hosted by the Arab Academy.

In addition to her primary post (Head of Administrative Monitoring Department - IMO Compound - AASTMT), she was appointed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and AASTMT as the Permanent Director of the General Secretariat of the Arab Women's Association in the Maritime Sector (AWIMA) and as a member of AWIMA Executive Council since 19 October 2017, which was launched by the International Maritime Organization for Women in the Maritime Sector (Reference: SDG5) under the auspices of the AASTMT and the Egyptian Ministry of Transport.

 

Miss\ Shireene Galal Worked formerly as the Assistant Head of Information Technology in the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding for Port State control (MED MoU on PSC) for 5 years from 2001 to 2005.

Miss\ Shireene Galal Began her career as a press correspondent in 1998 during her studies in college in the periodical International Economic Magazine “Specified Periodical International Economic Magazine – Published under license from London NW1 by Registration No.04874965 & now publish various articles as a volunteer.

She continued gaining unparalleled experience in public relations, within the maritime field, through her interviews with specialized dignitaries. It was through these interviews, combined with several acquaintances providing information, that she discovered how to begin in the maritime industry.

 

Also has a passion for sea, which can be traced back to her father; She is a daughter of a Master of high seas, and spent many happy childhood years living with her family in Alexandria. Her remarkable clear memory portrays long days of sun and sea. Her father was keen to take her several times to his work, where she gained vast knowledge on ship construction, cargo handling, stevedoring, and crew management. It is as real and clear today, as the tolling of a ship’s bell. He inspired her!!

 

In 1996 it was the first bell ring, the first call, for girls to enter the international maritime transport industry through the College of Maritime Transport & Technology – AASTMT. She joined the college and graduated as the first batch in the Middle East and got a BSC. Degree of Maritime Transport "Commercial Major in Management of International Transport & Logistics" in 2000 with a V. Good Grade, she was Head of Maritime Transport & Technology College Students Council for two years.

 

In 2000 she worked in various departments of International Shipping and Transport Company (ISTCO) and is the shipping agent of American President Line Company (APL), which established a new standard in marketing the product. In the summer of 1994, she worked in Elite PLC for marketing and sales.

In 2012 she decided to fulfil her evolution in various fields. She received her Master's Degree in Maritime Transport Technology (Marine Environment Protection) with an Excellent Grade.

  • Her Thesis was titled: “Future vision to enlarge the IMO MoU role & activities in Arab / Mediterranean region under the umbrella of the IMO according to the United Nations aspects”.
  • She was also a founding member of the Alumni “AASTMT” also she holds many of armor of Honor in her career.

 

  • To improve her capabilities, she keenly participated in several conferences, workshops, cooperation programs, technical support and capacity building programs; such as:

 

  • Time Management Course.
  • The 8th Arab International Forum for Middle East and North Africa Women Working in the Maritime Field under the title "Towards Smart Ports"
  • IMOC01 - IMO Activities Familiarization.
  • (IMOC03) Practical application of the International Safety Management Code and System Audit, including the obligations under the Data Protection Act (DPA)
  • Participating in the proceedings of the “Arab Maritime Cluster” workshop; organized to discuss a proposal to develop an Arab maritime cluster and methods of implementing this proposal.
  • Coordination and implementation of IMO Integrated Technical Cooperation Program (ITCP) activities, hosted by AASTMT which comprised more than 49 local and international technical cooperation programs.
